The Natural Marine Reserve of the "Tremiti Islands" was created by the Ministry of the Environment by Decree in 1986, inaugurated on the first of July of the same year with a concert offered by Lucio Dalla with the participation of the friend Ron
The Decree establishes that the Reserve pursues the environmental protection of the marine area concerned, the protection and enhancement of the biological resources of the marine environments and of the peculiar geological and geomorphological characteristics of the area as well as the implementation of educational programs for the improvement of the general culture in marine biology and marine ecology, and scientific research in these fields.
It also envisages the promotion of socio-economic development compatible with the natural and landscape importance of the archipelago.
The Reserve is subdivided into three zones (A, B and C) for a different use destination and different security rules.
